Former Baroka striker Richard Mbulu has been accused of threatening to kill referees during a recent cup match in Malawi.
Mbulu rejoined Malawi army side Mafco FC two months ago after deciding against extending his contract with relegated Baroka.
Now, the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has charged Mbulu of bullying and threatening match officials in an Airtel Top 8 match on November 6 2022, in Blantyre.
The match involved Mafco and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers, who have another former Baroka player Robin Ngalande on their books.
Mbulu, who is a soldier, risks either paying a fine or a ban for threatening the referee at Kamuzu Stadium. Wanderers won the match 2-0.
The offence is contrary to Article 22.13 of the 2022 Airtel Top 8 Cup Rules and Regulations and Article 59 of the FAM Disciplinary Code.
WHAT THE CHARGE SHEET SAYS
“Mafco player Richard Mbulu harassed match officials soon after the match by threatening to kill them and daring them never to come to Chitowe Stadium [Mafco home venue],” FAM’s charge sheet reads.
“He later led a group of Mafco players that blocked the match officials’ designated exit gate, forcing the match officials to use another gate.”
WANDERERS FACE MUSIC OVER JUJU PEDDLING FANS
Mbulu is reported to have lost his cool following altercations with Wanderers’ supporters who invaded the pitch to apply juju.
The Flames striker tried his luck at Zesco United in Zambia and almost sealed a move to a team in Iraq, but both moves fell through.
Mafco have also been charged with bringing the game of football into disrepute contrary to Article 67 of the FAM Disciplinary Code.
“Mafco FC failed to control their players from engaging in improper conduct as per Count 1 above, and their actions brought the game of football, FAM and the name of the sponsor into disrepute,” the charge sheet adds.
Wanderers, who former Chippa United mentor Mark Harrison coaches, have been charged with bringing the game into disrepute by using juju during the match.
“Mighty Mukuru Wanderers supporters poured liquid substances on Mafco players in the tunnel when they were going to the dressing room at half-time,” the charge adds.
“The supporters also harassed a Mafco kit master by confiscating his papers at half-time.”
Wanderers have also been charged for failing to control the actions of their fans.
