Lyle Foster situation explained

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has explained Lyle Foster’s injury situation and will miss the Mozambique international friendly.

South Africa will take on the Mozambicans tonight, with the kick-off set for 20:30 at Mbombela Stadium.

Foster, according to the coach, suffered a groin injury prior to Bafana camp in September where he had to be released to nurse his injury.

As per the national team’s standard procedure, he had to present himself at the camp in order to be examined for a decision to be taken thereafter.

A week ago, the 22-year-old frontman was named in the Bafana Bafana 23-man squad to face Mozambique and Angola in friendly matches.

The talented goalscorer banged a brace for KVC Westerlo this past Saturday when his side humiliated Oostende 6-0 in the Belgian Pro League clash.

The Belgian mentor has since set the records straight citing that they will not take chances of playing Foster as he is not 100% fit. He believes it will be risky for the player.

BROOS ON LYLE FOSTER SITUATION

“The problem with Lyle Foster is that already in September when he was with us he had to leave the camp because he had a groin injury,” Broos told journalists during the Bafana press conference at Mbombela Stadium.

“Almost half of the games in Belgium have been played. So there were so many games and he was overloaded, and he played 90 minutes on Saturday. So, I had contact with his coach and the doctors.

“For him to play this week will be very difficult for him. He needs to rest because I don’t think it will be ideal to play him while he is not 100%.

“It’s a little bit unlucky for us because Lyle had good games against Morocco and France. I was happy with him.

“And it’s a pity because in South Africa good strikers are not so much and Lyle is a good striker and he is not there but there will be others to get the opportunity showcase their talents.”
