Who could start for Bafana against Mozambique

Bafana Bafana will take on Mozambique in an international friendly match this evening at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga.

The showdown is scheduled to start at 20:30. Bafana will use the friendly international to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March next year.

Hugo Broos is expected to go for a mix of experienced and youth as they lock horns with The Mambas.

FARPost takes a look at the team the Belgian mentor is likely to field at Mbombela Stadium tonight.

HOW BAFANA COULD LINE-UP

GOALKEEPER

Ronwen Williams

The Bafana captain will be expected to bring a calming influence to his defence with excellent command of his 18-yard box.

And his experience in the field of play will be of paramount importance in guiding his side to victory.

DEFENDERS

Sydney Mobbie – Right-Back

Mobbie is one of the best performers for Sekhunene United despite them not doing well in the DStv Premiership. He is one player that can be trusted enough at the back, hence he has become one of the few regulars in the Bafana setup.

Siyanda Xulu – Centre-Back

Xulu will be expected to add his international experience in the defence given the fact that hen has represented Bafana on numerous occasions.

Rushine De Reuck – Centre-Back

De Reuck has been one of the impressive players for Sundowns and one of few Bafana regulars likely to play against Mozambique.

The defender has been doing well under the tutelage of Broos and has garnered outstanding performances in the national team.

Aubrey Modiba – Left Wing-Back

The Mamelodi Sundowns star is robust, mobile and fearless as he also boasts excellent pace and awareness.

MIDFIELDERS

Themba Zwane – Right Wing

The 33-year-old made headlines when he was included in coach Broos’ 23-man squad played friendly internationals against Sierra Leone and Botswana in September.

The Bafana coach noted that Zwane had what Bafana needed, and he expect him to bring it to the national team as he has been phenomenal for Sundowns. With that being said, he is likely to start in the midfield.

Luke Le Roux – Central Midfield

The 22-year-old footballer has been one of the in-form players for Varbergs Bols this season, having featured in 28 games across all competitions for his club.

Overall, the rising star has played a total number of 79 games in Varbergs colours since joining them back in February 2020. His experience will also come in handy for the South African side.

Teboho Mokoena – Central Midfield

Mokoena will be expected to add an extra dimension to the Bafana midfield, given his ability to push forward and be able to score goals from long range.

Monnapule Saleng – Left Wing

Saleng is one player who needs no introduction lately. His selfless space creation and a showreel of tricks and flicks make him a special player that will help Broos’ side to do well against Mozambique.

FORWARDS

Fragrie Lakay

The talented frontman has made a name for himself since joining the Egyptian side Pyramids in January 2022 with several important goals. And he will be hoping to reciprocate his good form in the Bafana setup.

Khanyisa Mayo

Mayo is one of the finest attackers in the South African football top-flight. A player who shoulders responsibility and rarely disappoints. And he has proven that with some stunning goals for his club, Cape Town City.
