When SA football fans are likely to see fully fit Zungu
Midfield maestro Bongani Zungu has revealed when SA football fans are likely to see him in top shape; fully fit as he he is raring to go to help Mamelodi Sundowns reach new heights.
Zungu rejoined Sundowns at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season from French Ligue 1 side Amiens SC, but he has struggled with match fitness.
The 30-year-old midfielder, Zungu, has stated that the FIFA World Cup break will come in handy as it will help him to work on his fitness in a personalised programme with the fitness trainers at Sundowns.
Zungu believes he will be at his peak and ready to compete when the league resumes at the end of December, with Sundowns taking on Orlando Pirates in a league clash.
“When I signed for Sundowns, it happened quickly and physically I wasn’t ready,” Zungu told the media at Carling Black Cup event in Sandton.
“I joined when the team had already played a couple of games and I’m happy to be back to my family and to play for Sundowns again.”
THE FANS TO SEE PEAK ZUNGU IN DECEMBER?
Zungu says he has been staying behind after training at Chloorkop, putting in extra shifts.
He has found it difficult to break into the star-studded Brazilians’ starting line-up, as Zungu has only managed to make five appearances in all competitions this season.
Ben 10, as he’s famously known, faces stiff competition in the central midfield position at the Tshwane giants.
Sundowns have Teboho Mokoena, Mthobi Mvala, Andile Jali, Sipho Mbule and Sphelele Mkhulise competing for the same position.
“I’ve been working very hard on my fitness, they’ve been helping me a lot at Sundowns and I feel very happy,” added Zungu
“I’m at peace, I’m doing quite well at training and my best will come.
“I’m nearly there [in terms of full fitness]; as I said, I’m training very hard; the team is off and in training with the trainers there at Chloorkop.
“It’s gonna be an exciting come back to the second half of the season for me, I don’t feel pressured by the club.
“I’m nearly there, for sure by next year or in the first game against Pirates I should be in a top shape,” added Zungu.
Masandawana will be looking for revenge in the league when they lock horns with the Buccaneers, who dumped them out of the MTN8 in the two legged semi-finals.
The clash will be played on 31 December in Tshwane.
