Angola coach pinpoints Bafana Bafana’s weak point

Angola coach Pedro Gonçalves has pinpointed Bafana Bafana’s weak point after the two sides played a 1-1 draw in an international friendly on Sunday.

The match was played at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit, just three days after Bafana beat Mozambique 2-1.

Gonçalves believes South Africa, under coach Hugo Broos, are going through a transition.

BAFANA BAFANA HAVE BIG VISION

“This is a problem for my opponent coach, not for me. I want to speak about my team,” Gonçalves told the media.

Anyway, South Africa, I believe, is a team with a big vision to play forward and play with everybody in front.

“Sometimes when you lose the ball [they are] a little bit open [at the back], and this is a problem for defensive.

“But as I said, it is not my problem. It is a problem for my opponents’ coach. So I believe he is working on that.”

The Portuguese mentor also had a couple of positive things to say about the South African national team. He said Broos’ charges play at a high tempo, especially when they surge forward.

WEAK POINT

“I believe South Africa are crossing a difficult situation. I believe they follow, they fall, but they are step by step again, trying to climb inside African football. It’s a strong team, a very quick team.

“They have a good process, especially in the offensive. But also have a weak point, which is what I try to expose today.

“In the end, I believe for us and South Africa, it was an interesting match to play into,” he concluded.

Bafana used the two friendly matches to prepare for March’s Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier against Liberia.

Gonçalves has been with Angola since 2019. In this period, he played 25 games and won 12 games, five draws and 8 losses.

However, this year has been a great year for Angola. The Palancas Negras won eight out of 12 games and only lost once.
