What gives Hugo Broos the belief Bafana will qualify for AFCON
Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has explained why he believes his side will qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
Broos’ men are in Group K alongside North African giants Morocco and Liberia in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Bafana have been in good form in the past four matches with three victories on the trot and a draw.
The stalemate came in their most recent international friendly game against Angola at Mbombela Stadium.
Before that, Bafana beat Mozambique 2-1 at the same venue in midweek.
Broos believes his charges are on the right track ahead of back-to-back vital AFCON qualifiers against Liberia in March 2023.
“It was a good taste, what we showed in those two games and in two games in September,” Broos told the media.
“I’m sure that we’ll qualify for AFCON because we can play good football, we can play modern football.
WHY BROOS IS OPTIMISTIC
“I’m satisfied about the camp; we played two games, two times against an opponent that will be similar in March against Liberia.
“We played against a difficult opponent, we played very good behind the ball, then the breakout they were very dangerous.”
Broos further stated that he was disappointed about the performance against Angola.
“We gave too much pace to Angola, we gave them time to receive the ball, there were many things less better than Thursday,” he explained.
“We didn’t lose, that’s one good thing; secondly, I think the results is correct.
“What we did Thursday, finding right solutions we couldn’t do. Some players didn’t achieve the level of what they achieved on Thursday.”
Bafana qualifying for the 2023 event will see them returning to the competition after missing out on the 2022 edition hosted in Cameroon.
They were knocked out of the competition in the quarter finals after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Nigeria.
AFCON 2022 will be held in January and February 2024.
