Why Banyana forward Ode Fulutudilu cut ties with Glasgow City
Banyana Banyana and FC Fleury 91 forward Ode Fulutudilu has shed light on why she decided to cut ties with the Scottish side, Glasgow City.
Fulutudilu left Glasgow in July 2022 alongside Vital Kats, Niamh Farrelly, Julia Molin, Tyler Dodds, Agata Filipa and Mya Bates.
The 32-year-old frontwoman previously represented clubs in South Africa, Finland and Spain, before penning a deal with Glasgow in 2021.
Following her departure from the Scottish club, she then signed a one-year deal with French side Fleury.
WHY FULUTUDILU LEFT GLASGOW CITY
The player made it clear that the style of play in the Scottish Women’s Premier League [SWPL 1], the top division of women’s football in Scotland is the reason behind her departure from Glasgow.
In an interview with FARPost, Fulutudilu said: “I think at the end of the day, I just felt like the league itself did not fit me well.
“Glasgow City being the best team in Scotland, 90% to 85% of the time we played against smaller teams and they couldn’t compete against us in most of the games.
“Therefore, it didn’t complement the type of football I would have wanted to play. I look to explore the spaces in behind of the opposition, and the majority of the teams in Scotland leave a little bit of space in behind [park the bus at the back], so it didn’t fit me well overall.”
However, she went on to reveal that she enjoyed her stay in Glasgow, having been able to make good relationships with other people and winning some silverware.
“Glasgow was really nice, given the fact that it is based in an English-speaking country which you can build relationships better, and understand the whole training session as there was no translating and things like that,” she added.
“As a person, I built some really decent relationships during my time there, and I’m grateful for the opportunity they gave me.”
