Pep Guardiola set to sign new deal with Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is said to have penned a new two-year deal with Manchester City.

According to the Athletic report, Guardiola has committed himself to the Citizens until 2025.

The report further revealed that the new contract will be an initial one-year deal with an option to extend for a further season, the same deal as the one he signed back in November 2020.

When the 51-year-old mentor was asked about his future at City before their Premier League encounter against Brentford, he said: “I don’t talk about that.”

“Everything is under control together with the club.

“I have said it many times, I have the feeling that I and the club are happy together.

“If we feel it both sides, we will see.”

Since taking over the helm at Ethihad in July 2016, Guardiola was in charge of 374 matches, having won 276, drawn 43 and lost 55 in the process.

Guardiola’s six-year stay at City is the longest commitment he has made to a club since becoming a football coach back in 2008.

When the Spanish coach signed a new contract in 2020, he noted that it was because of the club’s chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, and he said: “I would say that at this time, the reason I signed the contract is for our chairman. Especially for the conversations that we had.

“He convinced me that still we have to move forward, to try to do it, to continue what we have done in these incredible last four years together.”

City will be back in action on December 22 in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup against Liverpool.
