How Ronaldo fared in his second stint with Manchester United

Following Manchester United’s decision to terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by mutual agreement with immediate effect on Tuesday, FARPost looks at how the Portuguese star fared at the club in his second stint.

Ronaldo leaves Old Trafford trophyless after spending one and a half seasons [2021/22 and 2022/23] at the club. He made the switch to Man United from Serie A giants Juventus.

He worked with three different coaches at the club, namely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik Ten Hag.

2021/22 SEASON

Ronaldo hit the ground running in his first season on his return at Man United. He was used as the main striker by Solskjaer who was later sacked and replaced by Rangnick.

The former Real Madrid star, Ronaldo made 37 appearances in all competitions. And he managed to find the back of the net 25 times and provided three assists.

His huge contribution in scoring goals however, didn’t help the Red Devils so much.

The club finished outside the top four [sixth] in the Premier League log table, settling for a place in the Europa League competition.

2022/23 CAMPAIGN

In the current campaign, Ronaldo didn’t perform to his best for the English giants under Dutchman, Ten Hag.

He made 16 appearances in all competitions. But Ronaldo usually came in as a substitute. He scored three goals and provided only two assists.

After Man United announced that they have shown Ronaldo the exit door, the player took it to the social media to thank the club’s fans for their support.

He part ways with the club following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo heavily criticised the club and coach Ten Hag.

Ronald, who is currently representing his nation Portugal at the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place at Qatar, is a free agent.

He is searching for a new home and is free to start negotiations with a club of his choice so he can start playing in January when the leagues around the globe resume.
