Nkana accept ex-Zambia’s star suspension from football
Nkana has conceded that rules are rules and that suspended ex-Zambia star Alex Ngonga must face the music when he appears before the FAZ disciplinary committee.
Ngonga has been provisionally banned by FAZ for violent conduct in Saturday’s Kitwe derby loss that Nkana lost 1-0 at home archfoes Power Dynamos.
FAZ has not yet announced when Ngonga will appear before its disciplinary committee following his suspension on November 21.
Ngonga was substituted in the 75th minute and replaced by Tresor Mbangi with Nkana already down one-nil after Power striker Kennedy Musonda scored what would be the eventual winner in the 50th minute.
But as Ngonga walked off the pitch, he tore off his Nkana jersey and then proceeded to violently kick SuperSport TV’s touchline boom microphone.
NKANA ON THE ISSUE
Nkana Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Mutafu said there was no excuse for Ngonga’s behaviour, but they would seek professional help for the combustible striker.
“What happened was very unfortunate, and we 100 per cent stand with the decision, and we are in support of the decision of FAZ,” said Mutafu.
“So, we are just waiting to hear the decision of the disciplinary committee.
“And as a club, we will be sitting down also to take our internal disciplinary sanctions against the player.
“We are also planning to sit down with him and find out what could be going on around him.
“You never know; maybe he needs some counselling to understand what the problem is with him.
“We are trying to find a psychologist to sit him down and assess his anger so that we can help the boy.
“You know football is life; we have to try and see how best we can help manage his situation.”
Ngonga has been at Nkana since April 2021, when he terminated his contract with Power after he was left out of the club’s plans for the 2020/2021 season.
