Morgan Mammila sparks Swallows switch rumours… wears Birds jersey

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has sparked rumours that he might join Swallows after posing while clad in the Birds’ jersey.

Mammila has posted pictures on his tweeter handle showing Swallows chairperson David Mogashoa handing him the Birds’ distinct white and maroon jersey.

The outspoken administrator-turned-coach thanked the Swallows boss for giving him the jersey.

“Thanks a million, chairman. Will see you on the 6th January 2022,” he tweeted, in what seemed he meant 2023.

“Let me see if I have a siks [six] pack,” the Swallows chairman tweeted with Mammila’s picture.

FANS CONFUSED BY MMAMILA’S ANTICS

The latest tweets confused a football followed calling himself Ronny M, who said: “You were doing a great job at Chippa United, but I think you made a wrong choice by going to Moroka Swallows, but good luck. Hope you will turn things around.”

This prompted the former Chilli Boys CEO to eventually clarify matters by saying he was not moving to the Soweto side.

“I was born to coach only one team wesho and it CHIPPA. I will never coach any [other] team,” Mmamila said.

“I’m still with the Chilli Boys for the next coming 4 years, brother.”

Swallows do not have a substantive coach after they parted ways with Dylan Kerr weeks ago.

Senior player Musa Nyatama is holding fort as a caretaker coach.

Mammila is upgrading his coaching badges during the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup break.

IMPRESSIVE RUN AT CHIPPA UNITED

He had an impressive start to his reign at Chippa, where he became the team’s first coach to lead them to four wins on the bounce.

However, Mammila’s magic seemed to wane a bit before the World Cup break, as Chippa had lost back-to-back league games.

He has been in charge of six league games for the Chilli Boys, who lie in a respectable sixth place, 20 points behind runaway leaders and holders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Baroka FC CEO moved from an administrative role at Chippa to replace then-coach Daine Klate.

The former Orlando Pirates winger Klate lost his job just seven games into the DStv Premiership season.

The Bidvest Wits star had managed one win, two draws and four losses in charge of Chippa before getting the sack.
