Sundowns Ladies crowned Super League champions

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were officially crowned the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League Champions following their 4-2 win over Richmond United at the Lucas Moripe on Saturday afternoon. 

Goals from Salome Kekana, Lelona Daweti, Melinda Kgadiete, Modikanalo Mashigo were enough to earn Sundowns maximum points. 

This is Banyana Ba Style’s third consecutive league title as they finished top of the women’s league with 82 points from 30 outings. 

In fact, the red-hot Brazilians wrapped up the 2022 campaign with four games to spare, before heading to Morocco for the CAF Women’s Champions League where they finished the tournament as runners-up. 

SUNDOWNS SET THE BAR HIGH

Jerry Tshabalala’s charges also made a history by setting the bar high in the Super League as they have hit the 100-goal mark, making them the highest scoring team in the women’s league.

Overall, Masandawana have banged 126 goals and only conceded 13 goals in the process, making them the best defence in the league. 

The Chloorkop-based side ended the season boasting a whopping +113 goal difference. 

When the referee blew the final whistle, Lucas Moripe Stadium turned into jubilation mood it as Sundowns sealed the season on a high note in front of their fans.

The in-form forward Daweti walked away with the Player of the Match accolade following her scintillating performance on the day.

Despite their disappointing results in the COSAFA Qualifiers and CAF Women’s Champions League, one can finally say Sundowns had a decent campaign even though they couldn’t retain their treble.

And coach ‘Kappa’ noted that his his troops have gained valuable lessons throughout the season, as its been a season to remember for the reigning champions who brutally dominated the league whilst shattering numerous goal-scoring and defensive records in extraordinary style.
