Fashion Sakala set to be led by third coach since joining Rangers
Chipolopolo Zambia striker Fashion Sakala is set to be led by a third coach at Glasgow Rangers since joining the Scottish giants last season.
Rangers are looking for a new boss following the sacking of their former defender and ex-Dutch international Giovanni Van Bronckhorst on November 21 after twelve months in charge.
Van Bronckhorst left Rangers sitting at number two on the Scottish Premiership log but is currently nine points behind arch-foes and defending league champions Celtic after fifteen matches played.
The man Rangers are chasing to replace Van Bronckhorst is very familiar to Sakala.
Sky Sports reported on November 26 that Michael Beale had been permitted by his club Queens Park Rangers to speak to Rangers.
Beale was Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Rangers before the duo was fired last November to make way for Van Bronckhorst.
BEALE TO RANGERS?
Gerrard was the Rangers coach, who brought Sakala to Ibrox from Belgium club KV Oostende on a free transfer in July 2021.
Beale’s English Championship club is currently 7th on the log and is ten points behind promotion race leaders, Burnley, after 21 matches played.
The new Rangers boss, whoever that may be, will make his debut in league action on December 15 at home against Hibernian.
Van Bronckhorst last season finished runners-up in the league behind Celtic and also finished second in the 2021/2022 Europa League final.
But Sakala saw very little action under Van Bronckhorst, particularly this season.
This term, Sakala played just six Premiership matches scoring one goal.
Sakala has also played five UEFA Champions League matches and another two in domestic cup action but has yet to score in those campaigns.
Meanwhile, Sakala is currently on the recovery path from a muscle injury that saw him miss Chipolopolo’s away friendly against Israel on November 17 that Zambia lost 4-2.
Sakala sustained the injury on November 6 in Rangers’ 2-1 home win over St Johnstone and went on to miss Rangers’ last two games before the FIFA World Cup break.
