Nyasha Mushekwi defying odds of age in China
Former Mamelodi Sundowns forward Nyasha Mushekwi is leaving no stone unturned as he defies the odds of age in the Chinese Super League.
The 35-year-old is scoring for fun in China, where he notched his 15th goal of the season for Zhejiang Green Town in the Chinese Super League.
He was on target on the 21-minute mark as they thrashed Hebei 6-1 following another victory over Shanghai Port in a mid-week fixture.
NYASHA MUSHEKWI GOAL TALLY
So far, Mushekwi has featured in 26 games, with eight goals separating him from the leading goal scorer Amaral Vinicius Marcao of Wuhan Three Towns.
As it stands, Wuhan Three Towns are the log leaders, and their forward, Marcao, has been in scintillating form this season.
Marcao scored twice on Saturday in their 4–0 victory over Shenzhen to extend his lead on the goal charts.
Last season, the former Caps United gunslinger was Zhejiang Greentown’s shining beacon after playing a pivotal role in their process of gaining promotion into the Super League.
He was the club’s top scorer with 23 goals in as many matches for the club. And it appears he picked up from where he left off as he reaches for the stars in the Asian nation.
On the other hand, Zhejiang Greentown finds themselves pretty poised for a top-three finish in their maiden season.
They are third on the log standings with 49 points after 27 matches. However, they are 16 points behind Wuhan Three Towns and Shandong Taishan, who are tied on 65 points.
REMAINING ASSIGNMENTS
Only seven matches remain before this current campaign is ended. And Mushekwi will hope to reduce the gap between him and Marcao in the remaining assignments.
Last time out, he became the second Zimbabwean to win a Golden Boot award in the Chinese ranks after ex-Pirates forward Gilbert Mushangazhike, who won it in 2007 during his time at Jiangsu Shuntien.
And at this point, a second golden boot is not too hard to imagine for Mushekwi, considering how he has fared.
