Botswana giants’ coach hails ex-Sundowns star Ngele’s influence

Botswana’s Township Rollers coach Thabo Motang has hailed former Mamelodi Sundowns winger Mogakolodi Ngele for being a positive influence on the team.

Motang spoke to FARPost exclusively when asked about the influence the former Sundowns star Ngele had on them in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Gaborone United (GU).

The coach said he decided to feature Mogakolodi Ngele in the second-half of the Premier League game played at the National Stadium so as to make the most of his calming influence.

“He is not yet there in terms of where we want him to be but he is getting there,” he said.

“He is such a good influence on the team. The way he conducts himself encourages other player especially the young ones.”

Ngele rejoined Rollers, who are affectionately called Popa, after spending a successful career in South Africa.

The former Zebras star Ngele played for Sundowns, SuperSport United, Platinum Stars and Black Leopards among other PSL teams.

The seasoned winger has been among the driving forces for Popa who have lost once, won thrice and drawn one game in the league so far.

Motang felt his side deserved to win the game but it was let down by questionable officiation.

QUESTIONABLE OFFICIATING

Commenting on Saturday’s game, the coach felt the additional time was too long and this gave GU an opportunity to score the late equalizer.

Rollers thought they had defeated the defending champions when they went ahead through Segolame Boy’s first-half header.

Boy got to the end of a well-worked move in the 23rd minute to put the Blues (Rollers) ahead, according to the club’s website.

However, Labogang Ditsele’s stoppage time equaliser for GU denied Rollers maximum points.

The Gaborone Derby is the biggest fixture on the domestic fixture of South Africa’s neighbours, Botswana.

Rollers lead the log table, one point ahead of the third-placed GU on the 16-member log table.
