Yanga coach Nabi reacts to end of 49-unbeaten run
Tanzania’s Yanga SC coach Mohamed Nasreddine Nabi has reacted to the end of his 49-game unbeaten run in the East African country’s NBC Premier League during the week.
The defending champions Yanga lost 2-1 to Ihefu FC at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam in a league match on Tuesday afternoon.
YANGA COACH BLAMES EXTERNAL FORCES
In reaction, the Tunisian, Nabi attributed the defeat to external forces which were beyond his team’s control.
“First loss despite the effort and trying till the end,” the 57-year-old Nabi tweeted after the game.
“Many decisive factors which we could not control. Let’s focus on the ones we can! Everyone here will keep fighting no matter what!”
Two goals from Never Tigere and Lenny Kisu gave Ihefu the victory over Yanga, who scored their only goal through Yanick Bangala’s goal.
That means the unbeaten run for Nabi, who had been undefeated since taking charge of the defending champions last year, had ended.
STILL ON TOP OF THE TABLE
Yanga remain on the top of the NBC Premier League standings with 32 points, but they have played 13 matches, unlike their opponents Azam FC’s 14.
Yanga’s next game is against Prison FC on December 4 2022, at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where the leaders hope to consolidate their position.
The defending champions were such an invincible force last year when they won a treble of silverware in addition to the league title.
It was the first season that Yanga resurrected after having played second fiddle to their sworn rivals Simba for some four seasons.
Overall, Asec Mimosa from Ivory Coast hold the record for the longest unbeaten domestic league run of 108 games.
