Pirates star Zakhele Lepasa steps up training, finds inspiration
Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa has stepped up individual training during the DStv Premiership break and found inspiration of dealing with criticism.
Zakhele Lepasa has posted a video of himself sweating it out at a beach-like place.
The Bafana Bafana striker can be seen jumping up and down, pulling ropes and skipping hurdles under the guidance of a trainer.
ZAKHELE LEPASA FINDS INSPIRATION
Zakhele Lepasa has since quoted some unknown inspirational speaker he calls the Man in the Arena.
The quote seeks to explain why it does not make sense paying too much attention to critics.
“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better,” Zakhele Lepasa wrote.
“The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly.”
Lepasa has often come under fire for not scoring enough goals for club and country.
The 25-year-old, however, says to succeed in life one must bounce back from adversity.
“Who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds,” he said.
“Who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement.
“…and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.”
ENDING GOAL-DROUGHT WITH BAFANA BAFANA
Lepasa had before the World Cup break scored for Bafana Bafana from the penalty spot in the one-all draw with Angola in a friendly.
The goal ended his run of three matches without a goal for the national team.
He told the media that he was working hard to convert the chances he creates into goals.
“I have had opportunities to score every now and then. In the last game [against Mozambique], I didn’t get an opportunity to score but I created for others,” he said.
Lepasa and Pirates are bracing for a crunch meeting with Mamelodi Sundowns on December 31 2022 when the action resumes.
