Ramahlwe Mphahlele describes DStv Prem New Year’s Eve fixtures as unusual
AmaZulu defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has described the DStv Premiership New Year’s Eve fixtures as unusual due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Mphahlele’s team, AmaZulu are scheduled to take on Sekhukhune United on Saturday, 31 December at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
The former Kaizer Chiefs defender, Mphahlele reckons that it’s not going to be easy to play on a New Year’s Eve because is something they are not used to, but insists that they know that they don’t have “normal jobs.”
He also went on to say that they need to pull up their socks for them to get fruitful results when the league resumes.
MPHAHLELE ON UNUSUAL FIXTURES…
“We know it’s going to be hard playing on the 31st of December but we know that we don’t have normal jobs. We are not normal,” Mphahlele told the club’s media department.
“This is our life. It’s okay to play on New Year’s Eve or even on the 25th of December.
“Now we know it is time to work and that’s what we are going to do. We are just looking forward to having more time with the coach as we know that he came in late [October].
“We have a lot of work to do, to be honest. There’s room to get better and improve as a team, technically and even physically.
“We need to improve as a team. This is like our pre-season. We must prepare, not only for Sekhukhune but for the upcoming games. We need to move up on the log,” added the veteran defebder.
The KwaZulu-Natal club currently sit seventh on the log standings with 17 points from 13 outings.
MPHAHLELE ON HIS INJURY…
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old centre-back just returned back to training with AmaZulu after an injury setbac,
Mphahlele got injured during their 1-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 finale earlier this month at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
“I’m happy to be back with the boys training, you know, obviously after what happened after the MTN8 final with the freak injury, however, I’m okay now,” Mphahlele said.
“I think the break was needed for me personally since I am far from my family and my kids. It was good to be home and spend time with the family.”
