Ex-Sundowns administrator Peter Koutroulis joins Motsepe Foundation side

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Pretoria Callies have appointed veteran administrator Peter Koutroulis as their football manager.

The seasoned administrator Koutroulis brings over 30 years of experience to the Tshwane side. He has had stints with Mamelodi Sundowns‚ Thanda Royal Zulu, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Chippa United.

“He’s been appointed as the club’s football manager in a bid to bring a bit of stability to the club from an administrative point of view. The feeling is that the club will benefit immensely administratively,” a source told FARPost.

PETER KOUTROULIS WELL-EQUIPPED

“The chairman felt his vast experience in the game made him well-equipped to add value to the club from an administrative point of view.

“Peter also feels the club has massive potential and is excited to be part of the journey.”

His last job in local football was at Sekhukhune United, where he spent three months building up to their promotion to the PSL in the 2020/21 season. 

Prior to that, he was with Chippa United, where he served as CEO. Callies are at the basement of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table after playing 12 games in the 2022/23 season.

They have won two games and drew twice since the start of the new term. Koutroulis will be looking to involve himself in the turnaround of their fortunes when the league resumes in the New Year.

POOR OFFICIATING IN THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP

Callies’ former coach Kwanele Kopo bemoaned poor officiating several times as the club were sometimes the victim of poor refereeing. 

In fact, Kopo said he decided to quit his job as he could not stand watching his team robbed every week.

He insisted he did not want to watch the team go down due to dubious refereeing. The former SuperSport United youth coach helped Callies survive the chop last season.
