Richards Bay captain Maphathe gives update on injury
Richards Bay captain Katleho Maphathe has given an injury update ahead of the DStv Premiership‘s return later this month.
Maphathe has been impressive for Richards Bay who are in their maiden season in the top flight. However, he has been nursing an injury during the FIFA World Cup break.
MAPHATHE IS RARING TO GO
“I have been feeling good because, obviously, the FIFA break allowed me to recover,” Maphathe told FARPost.
“At the moment, I’m not sure about the extent of the injury because I still have to see the Doctor.
“But personally, I feel like I’m good. Hopefully, I will be back when the league resumes in December,” he said.
In the current season, the 29-year-old right-back has made 11 appearances in the league. He has ensured the club remains rock solid at the back.
Richards have defied the odds and hold a second-best defensive record in the league, with only six goals conceded.
The defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns have conceded the least number of goals so far and have only leaked five times after 12 games.
The Natal Rich Boys are currently positioned second on the Premiership table. The former Roses United defender stresses they must be consistent to maintain their position.
RICHARDS BAY BACK TO TRAINING
Richards Bay have won six games and drew five while suffering only two defeats.
“It’s been four days since we came back to training and the boys are showing they want to work more than before,” added Maphathe.
“We want to make sure that we are ready when the league resume for the second round next month,”
The KZN-based side were crowned champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship during the 2021/22 campaign.
Richards Bay hopes to resume the league with a victory when they face relegation-threatened Swallows on New Year’s Eve at King Zwelithini Stadium.
