Sundowns star Abubeker Nassir reacts to Morocco’s World Cup exploits
Mamelodi Sundowns forward Abubeker Nassir has reacted to Morocco’s Atlas Lions qualification to the Qatar FIFA World Cup round-of-16.
The Ethiopian forward said this after the Atlas Lions saw off Canada 2-1 on Thursday to progress to the knockout phase.
The Atlas Lions performance was among the highlights at the ongoing World Cup in Qatar on Thursday.
In reaction via twitter, Abubeker Nasir said the entire continent needed to share in Morocco’s glory.
“As an African this is what we want to see. This is football heritage,” Abubeker Nasir tweeted.
Abubeker Nasir has been a revelation since joining Sundowns from Ethiopian Coffee FC mid this year.

However, he missed some DStv Premiership games before the World Cup break due to injuries.
The forward is expected back in action on December 31 2022 when Sundowns take on Orlando Pirates.
The Ethiopian international broke all domestic league records to attract the attention of the DStv Premiership serial champions.
He is also Ethiopia’s star man going into the remaining 2023 AFCON qualifiers next March.
Ethiopia were among the participants at the delayed 2021 AFCON edition held in Cameroon between January and February this year.
With the domestic league on break in South Africa, Nasir is following the World Cup with particular interest in teams such as Morocco.
NASSIR’S ATTENTION ON WORLD CUP
Thursday’s win helped steer Morocco to the round-of-16 of the World Cup for the first time in 36 years.
It was also the first time that the Moroccans had conceded at the ongoing tournament in Qatar.
Morocco joined Senegal as the other African team to advance to the lucrative ranks of the Qatar World Cup.
Ghana also have a chance to advance going into their decisive game against Uruguay on Friday evening.
South Korea take on Portugal in another match on Friday.
Portugal are already through to the round of 16 after back-to-back wins over Ghana and Uruguay.
Japan, Argentina, France, Australia and England have also sealed their round-of-16 berths.
