Asamoah Gyan tells Andre Ayew what to do after penalty miss

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan has thrown his weight behind captain Andre Ayew after he missed a penalty.

The Black Stars were knocked out of the Qatar World Cup on Friday after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

They finished at the bottom of Group H with three points after registering one victory and two defeats. The West African country needed a victory to make it to the Round of 16 of the competition.

Gyan has been in the same situation and knows it’s normal in football. He has urged the skipper to keep his head up.

In 2010, he missed a penalty, hitting the cross bar against the same opponents. This was in the quarter finals and they lost the penalty shootout.

GYAN’S MESSAGE

“It’s a normal thing [to miss a penalty], I think the players will console him. I know it’s not going to be easy for him, it will be tough,” said Gyan.

“It’s part of the game, everything depends on him. I always say since 2010 I was able to side myself throughout these years to now.

“Everything will depend on him right now. People will try to motivate him, but it’s up to him to accept the fate and keep going.”

The conclusion of group stages saw two African teams Tunisia and Cameroon exit the competition.

However, the duo of Senegal and Morocco marched on to the next stage of the competition.

The Lions of Teranga will face England on Sunday and the Atlas Lions will take on Spain on Tuesday.
