England humiliate Senegal to book World Cup quarterfinal spot
England humiliated Senegal 3-0 in a 2022 FIFA World Cup round of 16 encounter at Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday night.
Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka’s goals were enough for the Three Lions to progress to the quarterfinals of this prestigious tournament.
Jude Bellingham proved to be the star that he is as the teenager was involved in the first goal netted by Henderson and also played a part in the second goal just before the half-time break.
England came into this match without their key member of the squad Raheem Sterling, who left the camp due to family reasons.
As a result of beating the African champions, England will face France in the quarterfinals of the tournament on Saturday, 10 December.
Senegal, on the other hand, tried so hard to come back into the game by attempting to expose Harry Maguire’s weaknesses but luck was just not on their side.
France earlier today thrashed Poland 3-1 to cruise their way into the last 16.
A brace from Kylian Mbappe and a goal from Olivier Giroud helped the defending champions to progress to the next round of the World Cup.
Giroud became France’s all-time leading goalscorer as he surpassed Thierry Henry. He now sit at 52 goals.
Robert Lewandowski managed to score a consolation goal for the Polish side, as they bowed out of the competition.
FANS REACT TO ENGLAND AND SENEGAL CLASH
A fan, Viktor Allen3 tweeted: “Had to fight hard 1st 35 mins, won the match 3-0 within 20 mins, game-managed last 35 mins. Well played England.”
The other, David Oku, said: “England overpowered Senegal in all departments tonight in what turned out to be a comfortable night for the Three Lions. Decent display but is still unconvincing yet. France will prove to be a sterner test & with Mbappe, rampaging might be the end of the road for the English.
One follower, DonVincenzo007, added: “England giving a real professional display. Basically stayed focused in every area on the pitch. Great all-around performance. Senegal have done well still, especially without Mane in this World Cup.”
