Former Al Ahly assistant coach Cavin Johnson gives update on his hunt for job

Former Al Ahly assistant coach Cavin Johnson has given an update on his hunt for a coaching job as he seeks to return to the dugout.

The 64-year-old coach abruptly parted company with the Club of The Century in September last year.

It is still unclear why Johnson vacated his position, leaving then-head coach Pitso Mosimane, while the club seemed to be doing well under their supervision.

Johnson has since been jobless. However, he had been linked with various DStv Premiership clubs, including Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, before they appointed their current coaches.

The former Platinum Stars mentor has confirmed to FARPost that there has been an interest in his services from local clubs and outside the country.

However, it has gone quiet because of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

JOHNSON CONFIRMS LOCAL AND FOREIGN INTEREST

“There has been an interest for me in Africa but because of the World Cup, for now, everything has gone quiet,” Johnson told FARPost.

“There has been an interest locally as well but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

JOHNSON LINKED WITH SIMBA COACHING JOB

Johnson is said to have applied for Simba SC’s head coach position following the sacking of Zoran Manoljovic in September.

The Tanzanian giants stated that they were looking for qualified African coaches, “not plumbers” according to the club’s CEO Barbara Gonzalez.

Simba, who have big continental football ambitions, were reportedly also keen to bring Mosimane to Tanzania before he joined Al Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.

Juma Mgunda is currently leading the Kariakoo-based club as an interim coach.
