Venue change for Kaizer Chiefs-Arrows tie

The PSL has confirmed a change of venue for the Kaizer Chiefs-Golden Arrows tie set for New Year’s Eve.

The game was initially pencilled in for the Princess Magogo Stadium but will now be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium

The game will still be played at the same time – 15h00 – on 31 December 2022. It marks the return of football after a month-long FIFA World Cup break.

In October, FARPost reported that negotiations were at an advanced stage regarding moving the game.

KAIZER CHIEFS VISIT ARROWS

Arrows welcome Chiefs as they start the second round of the 2022/23 season.

According to FARPost sources, concerns were that transport would be an issue if the game was hosted at Princess Magogo.

City authorities are aware of the numbers Chiefs draw and it was felt Princess Magogo would not be ideal.

Insiders further said it was thought that moving the game to Moses Mabhida would be suitable for business. It is also seen as an opportunity to try new things for the city’s tourism department.

Recently, there’s been talk of growing the city’s sports tourism. There is also the notion that revellers attending the annual music event Fact Durban Rocks at the People’s Park could also be enticed to attend the game.

FEEL AT HOME

Kaizer Chiefs have played some of their 2022/23 games at the same venue. Therefore, they will feel at home at the 2010 FIFA World Cup facility.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane will be looking to start the second round on a high when they visit Arrows.

Amakhosi are in fourth place after 13 games, and are seven points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns. They have amassed 21 points.

Their opponents on New Year’s Eve are eighth with 16 points from 13 games.
