Ex-Chiefs defender Gordinho explains why he chose Cape Town City

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho has explained why he chose to return to the DStv Premiership to join Cape Town City after leaving Denmark outfit HB Køge.

In July, Gordinho had initially signed an 18-month contract with the Danish second-tier outfit, Køge. However, his contract was cut short just after four months.

A week ago, FARPost reported that Gordinho was training with the Citizens and that a deal may be signed soon.

And a few days later, on Tuesday, 6 December, CT City announced the arrival of the defender on a three-year-old.

“It’s not so much about choosing where you want to go but about where you are wanted. I was contacted by Cape Town City, and I was happy with the proposal,” Gordinho told SNAWA.

“I think it’s about opportunities, and if you can see that being somewhere is not beneficial, then you have to relook things.

“Something that has carried me throughout my career is that I’ve always given my all in every team I’ve played for,” he added.

The 28-year-old further stated that there were issues that led him to leave Køge. But, he opted against disclosing the problems he faced at the club in Denmark.

“There were situations that arose at the club (HB Køge). I don’t want to talk about those situations, and that’s why I had to look for other opportunities,” stated Gordinho.

“One day, when everything is done and settled, I will talk about what happened at HB Køge. I can say I did it all in the field while I was in Denmark, and I know that I gave it my all.”

Gordinho is eligible to play for the Cape-based side as of 01 January 2023 when the transfer window opens.

Therefore, he will not be available for selection when City host Royal AM on December 30th when the league resumes after FIFA World Cup break in Qatar.
