Raheem Sterling to reunite with England’s World Cup squad in Qatar

Chelsea frontman Raheem Sterling is set to reunite with England’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad after he left the squad to attend to a family matter back home.

It was reported that Sterling had left The Three Lions’ FIFA World Cup squad in Qatar to go back to London as his home was burgled on Saturday. 

The 27-year-old missed the round of 16 fixture against the African champions Senegal on Sunday. 

According to the Police, Sterling’s family returned to the house only to discover that jewellery and watches were stolen. 

However, no threats of violence were reported.

Sterling featured in all England’s group games and scored in the 6-2 win over Iran.

Gareth Southgate is now a relieved man as the ex-Manchester City man returns because Sterling is of the players he [Southgate] relied on the most.

Sterling is expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah tomorrow prior to their quarterfinal clash with the defending champions France on Saturday.

Southgate’s reliability on Sterling has been proven before at major competitions as he started in all seven matches of England at the Euro 2020.

RAHEEM STERLING RETURNS…

“Raheem Sterling will return to England’s FIFA World Cup base in Qatar,” read the England FA statement. 

“The Three Lions   forward temporarily left to attend to a family matter but is now expected to rejoin the squad in Al Wakrah tomorrow ahead of the quarter-final with France.

ENGLAND FANS IN A JUBILATION MOOD 

The news got many of the England fans in a jubilation mood as they believe that they will need someone of Sterling’s calibre to down the defending champions in the World Cup’s last eight. 

One fan said: “Huge respect for him coming back only gonna lift the squad with him returning off the bench to score us the winner. 

The other follower tweeted: “Great he’s coming back and respect. Will be needed against France I reckon.  Another one added: “Welcome back, Sterling. Hope your family is well, and can’t wait to see you back in action. All the best, Raheem.”
