South African midfielder Lebogang Moloto announces departure from USA side

USA-based South African midfielder Lebogang Moloto has announced his departure from USL Championship side FC Tulsa.

Moloto has been part of the club for the past three seasons. Tulsa competes in the second tier of the American soccer division.

The 32-year-old had joined Tulsa from Nashville, SC during the 2019/20 season.

LEBOGANG MOLOTO BIDS FAREWELL

Moloto took to social media on Thursday to confirm that he has left Tulsa.

“Unfortunately, I will not be returning to finish up my remaining contract with Tulsa next year,” announced Moloto.

“In saying so, I wanna take this opportunity to thank FC Tulsa for the opportunity that was given to me and my family.

“It is always a pleasure to do what you love and I am grateful that FC Tulsa gave me a platform to do exactly that.”

“To the Fans, Thank you for the support over the years,” he said.

In their statement, Tulsa also bid farewell to Moloto.

“The contract of Lebogang Moloto has been bought out per the terms of the USL collective bargaining agreement,” the club said.

“Moloto, an eight-year veteran of the USL Championship, concludes his time in Tulsa after three seasons with the club with four goals and seven assists to his credit across all competitions.”

TULSA EXPLAIN DECISION TO PART WAYS

The club also announced that Moloto is joined by Canadian player Kembo Kibato on the exit list.

“FC Tulsa would like to thank both players for their contributions to the club and the city of Tulsa and wish them the best in the future.”

Moloto first moved to the USA in 2009 to play college soccer at Lindsey Wilson College.

This comes after he was discovered playing at a tournament in Cape Town.

He went on to play for teams such as Des Moines Menace, Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Swope Park Rangers and Nashville SC.
