Colombian forward Juan Camilo Zapata joins Cape Town City

DStv Premiership side Cape Town City have announced the signing of Colombian forward Juan Camilo Zapata.

Zapata joins the Citizens on a four year deal and will start his new journey in January.

The centre-forward joins CT City from Venezuela side CD Hermanos Colmenarez.

According to Soccerway, the 28-year-old began his career in 2013 at Colombian club Envigado. He moved on to Valledupar also in Colombia where he spent two seasons.

Zapata also had a short stint at Boyaca Chico before his move to Hermanos Colmenarez in Venezuela. This is where the striker made a name for himself.

“My fourth club was Hermanos Colmenarez in Venezuela where I scored 44 goals in 73 matches,” he said in a video posted by the club on Friday.

“The best numbers of my career and I think that’s where Cape Town City decided to sign me. For me it’s a dream and I feel very lucky and very happy to wear these colours.

“I want to pay the club back with effort, work and dedication. The truth is I see a very good group and a very solid team, with great footing.

“I want to be there. I want to get in and fight with everyone else,” he added.

Zapata joins a CT City side that has found the back of the net only 11 times in 11 matches.

The Citizens have had a slow start to the season. They went on a five match winless streak in the DStv Premiership with three defeats and two draws.

CT City also recently crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 4-0 on aggregate to Angola’s Petro de Luanda.

On Thursday, the club also lost one of their long serving players Craig Martin, who joined Orlando Pirates on a two and a half season deal.

He was announced alongside Ndumiso Mabena, who is on his second stint at the club.
