Bigger things anticipated at Sammy Seabi annual football tournament
With Covid-19 restrictions now relaxed, Sekhukhune United midfielder Sammy Seabi anticipates a better and bigger annual festive tournament.
The Sammy Seabi annual football tournament takes place every December at his home village at Ga-Mamabolo, Limpopo.
It attracts teams from the local communities as well as from the whole province. Scouts from different clubs also grace the tournament as do his colleagues in the football fraternity.
The 16 team tournament will take place from 21-24 December.
WHAT’S IN STORE AT SAMMY SEABI TOURNAMENT
“There is a lot that is going to happen as always. Now with Covid-19 restrictions relaxed we are expecting a lot of fans,” said Seabi.
“The tournament is growing bigger every year but of course we expect a lot of changes and a different atmosphere.
“We are trying to bring football closer to our communities because we know it’s very hard for the young players to get exposed so we intend to bring the exposure to them.
PASSION FOR GIVING BACK
“It’s also just to give back to my community because I come from the very same background. So we pledge everyone to come and support and enjoy with us.”
“My aim is to promote young good players to further their talent. It’s not easy but for us, by bringing the exposure to them, they can get the opportunity to showcase their talent that next time we see them on TV or in the national team. That’s the primary aim to male sure their talent don’t go wasted.”
Seabi is currently on loan at Sekhukhune United from DStv Premiership reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns. He joined Masandawana from Polokwane City during the 2019/20 season.
But the 28-year-old has found himself being loaned out to various teams due to lack of game time. This includes a stint at Chippa United, Swallows and now Sekhukhune.
He has featured six times for the Limpopo side since his move.
