Mzava on Ndumiso Mabena’s Pirates move: ‘You can’t buy experience’

Former AmaZulu defender Limbikani Mzava says Orlando Pirates’ signing of striker Ndumiso Mabena proves that you cannot buy experience.

Limbikani Mzava has since predicted plenty of goals to come from the seasoned forward Ndumiso Mabena.

Limbikani Mzava told FARPost that Ndumiso Mabena’s move to Pirates shows that every team needs experienced players to win silverware.

“He still has got the energy to deliver the goods,” he said.

“People that still have the energy must have a chance to play. You can’t buy experience.”

“You need such experienced people even more in the national team. Look at the World Cup, you see the players of that age performing,” he said.

Mzava said Pirates did not look at Mabena’s age but performance in training before bringing him on board.

“Such players are rare. They have welcomed him as a professional knowing that he is their former player,” the Malawian added.

Mzava remains a free agent and is training on his own while weighing up opting, saying he was not in a hurry.

The Malawi captain Mzava first signed for Celtic when he left Escom United in Malawi a decade ago.

He then moved to Mpumalanga Black Aces, Highlands Park, Golden Arrows then AmaZulu.

Mzava did not play alongside Mabena at the Siwelele as the Malawian had left when the striker joined the Free State side.

The Soweto-based team has signed Mabena on a free transfer after months of trials.

Mabena was club-less after leaving Royal AM where he did not replicate the form of Celtic.

Pirates unveiled Mabena alongside Craig Martin who has joined from Cape Town City.

Mabena has joined a wide poor of forwards at Pirates namely Deon Hotto, Vincent Pule, Zakhele Lepesa, Evidence Makgopa, Kabelo Dlamini, Kermit Erasmus, Eva Nga, Kwame Peprah and Thembinkosi Lorch.

Pirates’ star-studded cast of forwards has only delivered nine goals in 13 league games, compared to 24 for leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers are on fifth place on the log table nine points behind leaders and the holders Sundowns.
