What Ndumiso Mabena brings to Orlando Pirates

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola believes the signing of veteran forward Ndumiso Mabena will reap rewards for the club.

Mabena, who was a free agent, joined the Buccaneers on a one and half year deal.

He is expected to bolster the Pirates attack that already consists of players such as Kermit Erasmus, Kwame Peprah, Eva Nga and Zakhele Lepasa.

Sebola has also urged head coach Jose Riveiro to play with two strikers instead of one frontman.

“I think it was important to reinforce the strikeforce department because goals are not coming,” said Sebola.

“The midfielders have been delivering and it was only a problem of finishing. But my concern is that even if they can bring these strikers now.

“The system they are using of one striker is a problem. They need two strikers then they can get more goals, we need goals.”

WHY NDUMISO MABENA WILL SUCCEED

Sebola went on to explain why Mabena will succeed at the Soweto giants.

“He has the experience, he has done it at Platinum Stars. He has done it at Bloemfontein Celtic and at Royal AM. But the only issue is that if you play with two strikers then you will see the best of them,” he said.

“At Pirates, we used to have two strikers upfront. Because during our time, we have six strikers and two will be on the bench while the other two play.

“So that’s the only thing that I am looking forward to that the coach has to change.

Mabena began his career at Winners Park back in 2007 before he was identified by Pirates.

But his time at the Buccaneers was not as successful as he was with other clubs. He managed to score just eight goals in the five seasons he spent .

He later resurrected his career following moves to Platinum Stars, Bloemfontein Celtic and later on Royal AM.
