‘Emulate Peter Ndlovu’: PSL stars advised

Former Orlando Pirates captain Edelbert Dinha says Premier Soccer League [PSL] stars must take a leaf from Peter Ndlovu who remained grounded despite his individual achievements.

Dinha said simplicity has been the hallmark of Ndlovu’s success story in South Africa’s topflight; the DStv Premiership and abroad.

Until today the Mamelodi Sundowns team manager, Ndlovu is arguably the most celebrated former player in Zimbabwe.

Although he did not spend as much time in the Zimbabwean elite league, he remains a revered figure as the best forward that came from the Highlanders ranks.

And according to Dinha, simplicity was Peter Ndlovu’s secret weapon, which ultimately made him an influential figure in the Zimbabwe national team set-up then under Sunday Chidzambwa.

WHY PETER NDLOVU SHOULD BE PSL STARS MODEL

“He was such a simple guy. That was perhaps his main strength. Peter wanted to make sure everyone is doing well outside the pitch. That’s what players of today must do,”Dinha told FARPost.

“What made it more exciting is that when he was playing he led by example which naturally pushed us all to work hard and push hard to get results.

“Good leaders do not need to be captains or be given armbands but their character should naturally lead the team.

“Anyone who had a problem or issues, Peter’s door was always open for you. In fact he brought us all together like a father figure would do.

“Unfortunately I didn’t go to Tunisia for the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals because I was injured but we had pushed hard together,” added Dinha, who is a former Zimbabwean internationa.

Ndlovu had an impressive spell in England where he played for Coventry City, Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town.

In 2004 he arrived at the Tshwane giants as a player and was recruited into the technical structures in 2013 by coach Pitso Mosimane.

With Mosimane, they worked hand in gloove to form a formidable squad that has dominated the PSL upto date.

Ndlovu has also been hailed as one of the best appointments that the club made in the last decade.

For Zimbabwe he earned 100 caps and scored 38 goals between 1991 and 2007 when he retired from international football.
