Special flights organised to carry Morocco fans to World Cup semifinal match 

Morocco’s national carrier, Royal Air Maroc have announced a special for fans who wish to attend the Atlas Lions’ 2022 FIFA World Cup semifinal encounter in Qatar.

The Atlas Lions made history last week when they became the first African nation to qualify for a World Cup semifinal as they beat Portugal 1-0.

Only Cameron in 1990, Senegal in 2002, Ghana in 2010 were the only CAF members to reach the last eight of the World Cup.

But Morocco have shocked many and will now take on World Champions, France for a place at Sunday’s final. 

Royal Air Maroc have organised 30 special return flights to carry the fans from Casablanca. The Airline said they would operate the trips from Casablanca to Doha on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

“The exceptional and heroic performance of the national team during the 2022 World Cup will forever be engraved in the memory of Moroccans,” they said in a statement on Monday. 

“A performance achieved thanks, in particular, to the fervour of the Moroccan public, the 12th man.

“To allow the many Moroccans wishing to support the national team. Experiencing the emotion of the semifinal of the World Cup, Royal Air Maroc has set up a real air bridge between Casablanca and Doha.”

The flights will be offered at a promotional rate of 5,000 Moroccan dirhams (R8 320) for a return journey.

The airline organised the special flights in collaboration with Morocco’s football federation and the sports ministry. 

The encounter against France will take place on Wednesday at Al-Bayt Stadium in Al-Khor with kickoff set for 21:00. 

Croatia will take on Argentina in the first semifinal at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday evening. Croatia led by Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will be looking to qualify for a final for the second consecutive tournament. They lost 4-2 to France in the final in Russia. 

Argentina on the other hand will also be looking to qualify for the final after losing to Germany during the 2014 Final in Brazil.
