World Cup Golden Boot race heats up in Qatar

A total of 160 goals have been scored so far at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar with the Golden Boot race heating up.

FARPost looks at top three scorers who have a chance of clinching the Golden Boot award with only four matches are left to be played.

The top three contenders are France duo of Kylian Mbappe, Olivier Giroud and Argentina captain Lionel Messi.

The 23-year-old is the tournament’s top scorer with five goals. Mbappe opened his account when France thrashed Australia 4-1.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward then scored a brace against Denmark to send France to the round of 16.

Mbappe then scored another brace against Poland in the last 16 to seal qualification to the quarter finals.

OLIVIER GIROUD [FRANCE]

The AC Milan striker has been in fine form for Les Bleus at the World Cup. Giroud has found the back of the net four times.

The 36-year-old scored a brace in their opening match against Australia. Against Denmark he fired blanks and was not selected against Tunisia.

Giroud found his scoring boots again scoring against Poland in the last 16 and scoring the winning goal against England to book a place in the semi finals.

The Argentina skipper is also eyeing to win the Golden Boot. Messi is at par with Olivier Giroud who has four goals.

The PSG attacker scored in the first two opening matches against Saudi Arabia and Mexico respectively.

The 35-year-old then scored in the two knockout matches against Australia in the last 16 and Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

All the three players mentioned above got a chance to increase their goal tally when they play in the semi finals this week.

Messi’s Argentina will face Croatia on Tuesday, whilst French duo of Mbappe and Giroud take on Morocco on Wednesday.
