Two areas Steve Barker needs to reinforce at Stellenbosch

Steve Barker will be eager to reinforce in the January transfer window after his side Stellenbosch parted ways with two players during the mid-season break.

With the 2023 January transfer period set to open in two weeks time, FARPost writer Otis Ntshangase looks at two positions the Cape Winelands need to fill ahead of the resumption of the DStv Premiership.

Stellies captain Rafiq De Goede left the club to join Maritzburg United.

Striker Judas Moseamedi was released by Stellies after both parties agreed to terminate the contract on mutual consent.

STEVE BARKER REVEALS PLANS FOR JANUARY

Coach Barker revealed to FARPost that club is looking forward to bringing in new faces when the transfer window opens on 1 January; that’s if their targets are available on the market.

“We are always a squad that is looking to reinforce if it’s possible, so obviously January is another opportunity, another window to improve the squad,” Barked said.

“It will only be done if the right options are available. There are one or two options that we looking at, but we’ll see how things work out.”

Securing the services of a striker and a defender might bring balance and stability to Stellenbosch and help them elevate on the log standings.

Stellies started the season on a slow note. They lay 10th on the log standings with 14 points from 13 matches.

Barker’s troops have registered three victories, five draws and five defeats.

Stellenbosch have been struggling to convert their chances in front goal and they have been conceding a lot of goals. The club have a minus three goal difference after only scoring 14 goals and let in 17.

Stellies open their second half of the season against Chippa United at home on 30 December.
