Walid Regragui outlines Morocco’s major goal post-World Cup

Morocco coach Walid Regragui has outlined his team’s major goal from now on following their exit at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Regragui believes Morocco will lift the prestigious World Cup trophy one day.

This comes after the Atlas Lions defied all odds and finished fourth in the 2022 edition.

Regragui’s men suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia on Saturday afternoon in a third/fourth place encounter.

Morocco therefore, made history by becoming the first African nation to play in the semifinals of the World Cup.

WALID REGRAGUI REVEALS MOROCCO’S MAJOR GOAL

“We have an objective of winning the World Cup one day,” said Regragui.

“Morocco showed we can go toe to toe with these teams. We are now one of the top four teams in the world.

“We had 0.01 per cent chance of winning the tournament at the outset. We managed to get to the last four. We played some of the powerhouses of football.

“If you told me we’d get this far, number four in the world, I’d have accepted that straight away.

“For 2026, if I’m still in charge, I’ll have more experience and maybe things will change, and in 2026 we will realise the achievement we’ve made in 2022.”

Regragui further believes his players deserve respect after their performances.

“We deserve respect. They fought until the end, showed hard graft. That’s football, some nations are stronger than us,” he added.

Morocco and Croatia played against each other twice, first in the group stages then third place/ fourth place playoff. The first match ended in a nil all draw.
