Bradley Grobler critical of World Cup break

SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler has expressed his disapproval of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) break to accommodate the recent past FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Other countries who didn’t make it to the World Cup finals such as Algeria and Egypt decided to continue with their leagues.

South Africa also didn’t make the cut and the DStv Premiership didn’t have a single representative in the Qatar’s global showpiece.

Grobler has explained why the World Cup’s six weeks break has been unkind to them.

GROBLER NOT HAPPY WITH WORLD CUP BREAK

“Two pre-seasons in a couple of months is never nice, to be honest,” he said during the SuperSport United camp in Durban.

“We did a pre-season (June), played 12 games, and now you have to do another one so, it’s not ideal but it is what it is.

“But we’ve worked hard as usual. I’m just excited to kind of kick off the season again.”

Grobler says the break has disrupted their momentum as his side was beginning to get the desired results following an awful start to the season.

“I think if you had given us an option, we would have continued with the season,” he added.

“I think we started to pick up points after a bit of a rough start, we got better and better.

“But it is what it is, we’re going to make the most of it.

“Maybe the guys who weren’t up to fitness or struggled with the few injuries, now it’s time

to get back and carry on where we left off.”

The SA club football was put on hold on 12 November and is set to resume on 30 December.

Gavin Hunt’s men will play host to Marumo Gallants on the resumption date of the DStv Premiership at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium at 19:30.
