Funeral details of the late Bush Bucks legend Nigel Dixon revealed
The late Bush Bucks legend Nigel Dixon will be buried on Thursday, 22 December 2022.
Dixon passed away on Thursday 15 December after a battle with cancer.
The 55-year-old made his debut for Bush Bucks in 1988 and went on to play for a decade before he was forced to retire due to a knee injury he sustained playing against Orlando Pirates in 1994.
Dixon will now be laid to rest in Stirling, East London at 10:00.
HIS FAMILY PAY TRIBUTE
“It’s been the toughest moments of our lives and we have to be strong for that man,” his son Chadley Dixon told the SA FM Sports show.
“We take it one day at a time and we see where this leads us off.
“It was an extreme shock because my Dad was such a warrior where he had the sickness undercover for a while. When we found out that he had it and the stage that he was in, it was the biggest shock of our lives because it happened so fast,” he said.
“I lost my hero, my inspiration. This is why I do what I do today. I am a coach at a school, the only reason why I am there is because of my old man.”
STURU PASIYA REMEMBERES NIGEL DIXON
A long time friend and former boss at Bush Bucks Sturu Pasiya has described Dixon’s death as a sad day.
“He has always been an honest person. I met Nigel in 1988 when we won the OK league to gain promotion to the then NSL.
“He was my right hand man. I don’t know what I am going to do because I am just a figurehead. When it comes to the dirty work, everything was done by Nigel Dixon,” said Pasiya.
Dixon’s coaching career includes a stint at Bush Bucks between 1999 and 2006. He was also a goalkeeper coach at Santos between 2009 and 2014.
During the time of his passing Dixon was a technical director at Bush Bucks All Stars Sports Development.
