Pitso Mosimane’s side back to winning ways in Saudi Arabia
Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahli Saudi returned to winning ways after easing to a 3-1 win over Hajer Club on Wednesday evening.
Al Ahli went into Wednesday’s second-tier league game after having drawn 0-0 with Al-Ain on December 15 2022.
It was the league’s first game following the recent World Cup break in Saudi Arabia.
Pitso Mosimane’s side got it right on Wednesday in the second match after the restart.
Ryad Boudebouz scored Al Ahli first goal in the 11th minute to set the tone for the proceedings.
One goal soon became two when Ziyad found the target in the 32nd minute of the match.
Pitso Mosimane’s charges went to the dressing room with a spring in their steps as they led 2-0.
Al Ahli continued from where they had left in the first stanza.
This time around Pitso Mosimane banked on the finishing abilities of Hassan Al Ali in the 68th minute.
The visitors Hajer scored the consolation in the late stages of the match.
AL AHLI LIE FIFTH SEVEN POINTS BEHIND LEADERS WITH TWO GAMES IN HAND
This leaves Al Ahli on fifth place on the log table with 19 points from 10 games.
Mosimane’s team has 19 points from 10 games, seven points behind leaders Al-Faisaly FC.
However, Al Ahli stand a chance to rise on the table as they have played two games less than the league leaders.
Al Ahli are three points in front of Hajer who are in 11th place on the 18-member log table.
Najran anchor the table with just seven points despite having played as many as 13 games.
The South African coach joined the Saudi Arabian side three months ago after ending his sabbatical.
He has been charged with steering the Jeddah-based Al Ahli back to the Saudi Pro League next season.
PITSO MOSIMANE IS YET TO LOSE A LEAGUE MATCH IN SAUDI ARABIA
Mosimane is yet to lose a competitive match in charge of Al Ahli.
The 58-year-old took a break to recharge after spending 21 demanding months at Al Ahly in Egypt where his tenure was a huge success.
Mosimane resigned from Al Ahly mid this year a few days after a 2-0 loss to Wydad Casablanca in the CAF Champions League final.
The loss denied the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach a third Champions League title with Al Ahly and overall fourth in his career.
