Aaron Mokoena offers SuperSport advice on Amajimbos’ captain Benjamin Wallis
Former Bafana Bafana captain Aaron Mokoena has offered SuperSport United advice on Amajimbos skipper Benjamin Wallis’ future.
The South African U17 national team assistant coach reckons that Wallis will be the next big thing at the heart of SuperSport United‘s defence.
Mokoena sees the youngster as a player that has all the tools to become one of the best defenders in the country and wishes to see him given a chance to train with the senior team in order to gain the much-needed experience.
AARON MOKOENA WISH FOR BENJAMIN WALLIS…
“The one question that I asked him was; “Have you ever trained with the first team before?” he then said “No”.
“For me personally, my wish is to see the boy train with the first team. I think right now the boy is ready to train with the senior team even if they won’t play him but just for him to get the taste and gain experience,” Mokoena told FARPost.
“The boy is a great leader with a mentally strong character.
“Hopefully right now is December, first teams should try to spend some time with these boys so that when we meet again they wouldn’t come back changed as they have done well for the country.”
Wallis led the Amajimbos team with aplomb at the Region 5 Games in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The talented player did not just lead the team with so much pride but also contributed some important goals for his side to be able to reach the finals of the U17 COSAFA Championship.
The Matsatsantsa rising star was also named in the Best XI from the U17 AFCON 2023 COSAFA qualifiers.
AARON MOKOENA ON BENJAMIN WALLIS’ CHARACTER
The ex-Blackburn Rovers defender went on to describe Wallis as someone who is “down to earth” and always “eager to learn.”
“Benjamin is a boy who always wants to learn. He has a fantastic structure in terms of the height and asks questions, and he is someone who is down to earth and eager to learn more,” he added.
“I think SuperSport United has really done well in developing a player of Benjamin’s calibre at a such young age. So, with him, I see a very bright future. SuperSport has produced a lot of youngsters and good players in recent years.
“Having spent over a month with him, honestly I’m not worried about him because I’m pretty sure that he is one boy who will always be down to earth and I don’t think money will one day make him big-headed.
“But again we still need to understand that we are talking about someone who is still under-17 and still needs guidance as well.”
