Maritzburg add team building to DStv Premiership preparations

Relegation-threatened Maritzburg United have added team-building sessions to their preparations for the DStv Premiership season restart.

The KwaZulu Natal-based side took its team-building sessions to Giba Gorge Reserve on Thursday, hoping to ensure players gel off the field.

“The Team of Choice had a productive Team building at Giba Gorge Nature Reserve,” Maritzburg said in a brief update.

“The main goal of the team-building was to improve productivity and motivation whilst allowing the team to have fun.”

ENCOURAGING SIGNS FOR MARITZBURG UNITED

There are encouraging signs for Maritzburg with the coming in of coach Fadlu Davids.

The team’s former coach replaced John Maduka, who was sacked weeks ago due to underperformance.

Davids was available on the market months ago after parting ways with FC Lokomotiv in Russia.

The former Royal AM trainer Maduka left the Team of Choice bottom of the log table.

Davids has presided over some friendliness, including a one-all draw with Royal AM on December 17 2022.

The Blue Army also played another friendly against Lamontville Golden Arrows at Chatsworth Stadium on December 18.

Maritzburg also squared off with newcomers Richards Bay at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday. Morning.

The game ended one-all. However, details about the actual scorers remain under wraps.

MARITZBURG UNITED BEEF UP COACHING PANEL

Maritzburg have since beefed up their coaching panel with former Orlando Pirates custodian Wayne Sandilands joining as goalkeeper coach.

The Durban-based team also poached from Pirates Darian Wilken, who is working with Davids as an assistant coach.

The coaching panel comprises Burger Van Der Merwe (Physical Trainer) and Mueez Kajee (Performance/Video Analyst).

It is expected that such changes will help improve the performance of Maritzburg when the season resumes at the end of this month.

Maritzburg anchored the log table with a meagre 11 points from 13 games.

Only a goal aggregate separates the Team of Choice from second-from-bottom Sekhukhune United.
