Njabulo Blom compared to EPL star after MLS switch

Newly signed St Louis City SC midfielder Njabulo Blom has been compared to an English Premier League star ahead of his switch to the MLS.

On Friday night, Kaizer Chiefs announced that Blom had penned a two-year deal with the MLS outfit.

The move put an end to speculation linking the Bafana Bafana star to local clubs. The Chiefs academy graduate was entering the last six months of his contract with his boyhood club.

NJABULO BLOM LIKENED TO EPL ACE

St Louis City SC sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel has likened Blom to an England-based star.

“I’ll be very careful how I say this,” Pfannenstiel said, “he has the same kind of playing style like a Tyler Adams.”

Adams plays for the US national team and featured in four of their 2022 FIFA World Cup matches.

Pfannenstiel, however, warns the 23-year-old still has some way to go to reach the levels of the Leeds United midfielder.

“He’s obviously not at that level yet, but he’s that kind of midfielder, with a high work rate, for the ball-winning qualities.”

THE MISSING PUZZLE

Blom has been described as the missing puzzle to the St Louis squad and a present to the club’s followers.

“He’s a missing puzzle piece, and to get that before Christmas, I would have been pleased to sign him in early January. But having it all wrapped up now is a present for ourselves and a present to our fans that we are now able to have our spine complete. Still, a few little things for us to do, but that was for us a massive, massive signing.”

Blom becomes the third South African to play in the MLS. His Bafana teammate Bongokuhle Hlongwane turns out for Minnesota United while Katlego ‘Tsiki’ Ntsabeleng plays for FC Dallas.
