Coach frustrated as ‘Percy Tau-less’ Al Ahly huff and puff to a draw

Coach Marcel Koller was left frustrated after his ‘Percy Tau-less’ Al Ahly huffed and puffed to a 0-0 draw against Smouha on Christmas Day.

Koller was left agitated with the second draw in three Egyptian Premier League games.

AL AHLY COACH COMPLAINS OVER TOO DEFENSIVE SMOUHA

The Swiss boss told Al Ahly website he has never seen a so defensive team such as Smouha. This was after the two teams clashed at the Al Ahly WE Al Salam Stadium.

“We did not play well tonight, and we did not create many chances,” he said.

“We faced a very defensive team, and during the second-half, we pushed forward to score.

“However, we did not create many chances and could not score.”

The coach, who replaced Pitso Mosimane’s successor Ricardo Soares in August, said he was unhappy with the dropped points.

“The game’s time tonight was wasted. I have never seen a game like that in my career,” Koller added.

“Despite all the time that was wasted, the referee gave two minutes only in the stoppage time of the first half and five minutes in the second half.

“It will be better for Egyptian football if everyone focused only on playing and not wasting time.”

Koller is feeling the heat after Ahly wasted a chance to go four points clear of Zamalek, who drew.

AL AHLY LOSS OF FORM COINCIDES WITH PERCY TAU’S INJURY

Coincidentally, the wheels for the Cairo-based giants have come off after the injury of South African star Percy Tau.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion winger Percy Tau suffered a hamstring injury soon after scoring in the 3-0 rout of Al Ittihad two weeks ago.

Al Ahly had, until that time, won six games on the trot, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns star Tau scoring in the last two consecutive games.

Al Ahly’s treatment room is now getting full, with defender Akram Tawfik also being ruled out due to an injury.
