Ex-Sundowns striker Emiliano Tade expects ‘surreal’ FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco
Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Emiliano Tade says he is looking forward to ‘a surreal’ FIFA Club World Cup in Morocco with New Zealand’s Auckland City FC.
The Argentine Emiliano Tade spoke to Auckland City’s website ahead of the Club World Cup scheduled for February 2023.
“Yet it feels very unreal like I wasn’t there, like I watched it all happen in a movie, and it is very surreal,” the ex-Sundowns player is quoted saying.
“Now, having the Club World Cup in Morocco just around the corner means we, as players, are all thinking about it because we know what to expect.
“We have been there many times, and it’s time to try and prove ourselves again.”
EMILIANO TADE HAS FOND MEMORIES OF MOROCCO
Emiliano Tade said he had fond memories of playing for Auckland City at the Club World Cup in Morocco six years ago in his first spell with the team.
“The Club World Cup has always been a very special tournament for us as a club and also important for Oceania,” he said.
“The memories of the tournament in Morocco in 2014 is always going to be one of the highlights in my life, for the rest of my life, and I’ll always be able to look back and say ‘wow’.
The former Amazulu striker Emiliano Tade has been in imperious form this season, leading Auckland City to a four-trophy haul.
Tade has scored 12 goals in 17 games for Auckland City. Overall, he has taken his tally to a staggering 114 goals in 219 games. Tade wants to replicate that form at the Club World Cup.
HOW THE ARGENTINE QUIT SUNDOWNS IN A HUFF
Tade quit Sundowns two years ago in a huff, saying he was retiring from professional football.
However, it did not take long before the Argentine made a U-turn and signed for Auckland City.
The 35-year-old played for City until 2014, when he returned home for a spell with Atletico Mitre FC.
Tade quit Auckland soon after they finished third at the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup. The striker had played for Auckland from 2011 to 2014.
Tade secured a big money transfer to Sundowns after they spotted his impressive displays while on the books of AmaZulu.
