Maritzburg United officially unveil Wayde Jooste
Maritzburg United have officially announced the signing of defender Wayde Jooste on a free transfer.
Jooste started training with the Team of Choice in November, hoping to impress the new head coach Fadlu Davids.
He had a little to prove as he had previously worked with Davids at Orlando Pirates.
The right-back left the Buccaneers before the start of the current season after the two parties reached an agreement to terminate his contract.
WAYDE JOOSTE TRIED HIS LUCK AT SUPERSPORT
Before reuniting with Davids, Jooste tried his luck at SuperSport United, where he spent weeks training. But the Tshwane outfit did not offer him a deal.
As soon as Davids took over as head coach of Maritzburg following the departure of John Maduka, he was brought in for assessment.
Davids will be happy to finally have Jooste part of his squad as he looks to steer the Team of Choice away from the relegation zone.
The Pietermaritzburg outfit is currently at the basement of the DStv Premiership table after 13 games. They have only collected 11 points after picking two wins and five draws. The other six games ended in losses.
Interestingly, their defence has let in 19 goals, and Jooste will likely shore up things at the back.
REACTS AFTER JOINING MARITZBURG UNITED
He said the move was an opportunity he would grab with both hands.
“I am happy to have joined the Team of Choice,” Jooste told the Maritzburg United media.
“This is an opportunity I look to grab with both hands.”
Jooste has previously played for Bloemfontein Celtic, Golden Arrows, Highlands Park and Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League.
Since making his senior debut on 3 November 2013 in the now-defunct Celtic colours, Jooste has amassed more than 130 appearances in his career to date.
