Pirates ‘still bleeding’ from Sundowns’ defeat in Beer Cup

Orlando Pirates legend Edward ‘Magents’ Motale says the Buccaneers will be gunning for revenge when they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership clash.

Pirates will take a short trip to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday, 30 December to face the defending league champions with the kick-off scheduled for 15:30.

Jose Riveiro’s charges come into this mouthwatering showdown aiming to get their revenge having suffered a 4-0 defeat to Bafana Ba Style in the Black Label Carling Cup final last month.

The Soweto giants are currently placed fifth on the South African football top-flight table with 19 points after 13 games.

Meanwhile, Masandawana find themselves flourishing on the summit of the log standings with 28 points from 12 outings, five points clear from second-placed Richards Bay.

And Motale declared he can’t wait for a chance to see his former club revenge the Carling Cup defeat on Friday.

He further stated that he believes that the Sea Robbers will be more clinical in the final third as they are able to create chances but fails to convert them.

EDWARD MOTALE ON PIRATES FACING SUNDOWNS

“Remember they just lost against Sundowns in the Black Label Carling Cup, so they are still bleeding,” Motale told FARPost.

“But I have got the believe for the coach and the entire staff that they have went back to the drawing board during the FIFA break to correct all those mistakes that made them lose against Sundowns.”

MOTALE ON WHETHER PIRATES WILL WIN THE LEGUE…

However, the legend reckons that the league title is still open to everyone as they are still many games left to play.

“Well, it’s still early now to predict. Now, nobody is guaranteed to win the league,” he added.

“Most of the teams have played about 13 games so far and that means the league is still open to almost everyone.”
