What Themba Zwane thinks about showboating in Kasi football

Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns dribbling wizard Themba Zwane is evidently not a fan of showboating in Kasi football as he has described it as ‘meaningless’.

Themba Zwane lambasted the showboating that has been on display in various Kasi football tournaments around the country, including Philly’s Games in Tembisa.

The Sundowns star, Themba Zwane, strongly believes that showboating is a hindrance to the growth of South African football.

Most recently, at the popular Philly’s Games, a video clip has been making rounds on social media where Isithembiso players were clowning around and lying down on the pitch as if they were sleeping, carelessly giving the ball to their opponent Phanda Phanda, who scored a goal as a result.

However, Isithembiso were leading 6-1 on aggregate when they performed the silly trick, which is deemed as “disrespectful” by Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana.

WHAT THEMBA ZWANE THINKS

Zwane, who is an ambassador of the Philly’s Games said: “To be honest, I didn’t watch the game, but I saw the clips that were trending on social media.

“My opinion I don’t think what they were doing is going to help us to grow as a country because what we want is to go forward and grow as players but what they were doing, I don’t think we are going forward.

“They need to change their game; they need to be more business-minded, as football is moving in that direction these days.

“It is very important for them to watch games such as the FIFA World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) so that they can see that when they talk about dribbling, they talk about going forward, dribble, do something with the ball, create chances for the team,” added Zwane.

Zwane is one of the best Kasi football products as he has gone on to win several trophies, Sundowns the CAF Champions League and six DStv Premiership titles.

He has also earned 28 caps at the international level in Bafana Bafana colours and played at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
