League position a concern as Marumo Gallants face SuperSport

Marumo Gallants defender Lebohang Mabotja admits they need to start collecting points as soon as possible to stay safe.

Gallants will travel to Lucas Moripe Stadium on Friday evening for a DStv Premiership encounter against SuperSport United.

United will not be an easy assignment as they were one of the in-form teams prior to the World Cup break.

Despite the change of fortunes since the return of coach Dan Malesela, Marumo Gallants still finds themselves at the bottom half of the table.

“Yes, we are still in the same position, and we are very concerned about that,” Mabotja told FARPost

“The games are going to come in fast, and we have to collect points to move up.

“I think we will be playing for 21 points, if I’m not mistaken, starting with tonight’s game at the end of January. So we know we have to be at our best,” he said.

“We expect a pressure game. They run a lot mainly because now they have a much younger team than what we know.”

ON HIS FORM THIS SEASON

“I’m so happy with my contribution to the team. I’m still pushing to reach the target, but overall I’m happy because I’m on the right way.

“It is very nice to be back competing again. We have been patiently waiting for the games to resume, and here we are, ready for the first match tonight,” added Mabotja.

“The mood has been good amongst the players since we got back. We worked hard to get to this day. I can say the mood is on another level.”

A win for Gallants tonight can take them up to the top eight depending on other clubs’ results. Despite being at position 11, they are only two points above the bottom club Maritzburg United.
