Khabo Zondo explains why Royal AM lost to Cape Town City
Royal AM head coach Khabo Zondo has rued missed chances from his troops in their 2-1 loss to Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership clash at DHL Stadium on Friday night.
The defeat was the KwaZulu-Natal club’s seventh in the South African football top flight, and they find themselves in position 11 on the table with 16 points after 13 games.
As a result, Zondo felt his team deserved more from the showpiece, given the clear-cut chances his side missed.
KHABO ZONDO ON WASTEFUL ROYAL AM…
“If you don’t do your things correctly, you will lose matches the way we lost. We couldn’t focus on the critical phase of the game right in the end,” Zondo told the media.
“That’s where we needed more energy and more focus. Play simple, and don’t make mistakes. And if you look at the chances that we have lost, we had more clear-cut chances than our opponents.
“To be honest, we played well. We created those chances, only one aspect and couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. We delayed and delayed until the opponents blocked those shots. Poor decision-making, to be honest.”
KHABO ZONDO’S WAY FORWARD…
However, the ex-Golden Arrows mentor reckons that they will take the game’s positives and try to work on finishing in the final third.
“We have accepted that we must move on as we know the area we need to focus on. Our finishing is not up to scratch, and these are the things we can work on in training,” he added.
“We need to motivate these players and make sure that they recover well and be physically and mentally ready to play again.”
Zondo’s boys will take TS Galaxy at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday, 3 January.
The kick-off is at 19:30.
